Board Meeting

3/14/07

 

7:05 PM     Meeting called to order by Vice Chair Doretta Schrock.

 

* Board Members Rich Watson, Matt Svymbersky, Tim Batog, and Tim Lyden Brenda Ray Scott, Larry Fellows are in attendance.   

 

7:08  Vice Chair Doretta Schrock  asks for announcements

 

* Tim Batog announces the Interstate Light Rail Corridor Zoning Project open house taking place on Saturday March 17th from 9am-1pm at the Kaiser Town Hall 3704 N Interstate.

* Doretta Schrock asks that anyone interested in the Office of Neighborhood Development grant committee see her.

* Doretta reports that the North Precinct issue is ongoing. Mayor Potter may be available to meet with neighbors.

* There will be a Roots to Wings celebration of families and community inside the Lloyd Mall on Sat March 31 10am-4pm

7:10 PM     Victory Boulevard to Lombard Project Presentation

 

* Project is not expected to have funding designated for a number of years.

* From 11:30pm-4:30am expect lane closures.

* Lanes will remain open during the days

* Will include some environmental features and sound wall improvements.

* Construction is expected to be completed in Spring 2011.

 

7:17pm            Officer Reynolds and Havilah Ferschweiler Crime Prevention

        Presentation

 

* Burglaries in the daytime in the area.

* Huge spike in graffiti in the area.(some at Peninsula School).

* Taggers will be charged per tag so the police ask that the community document each instance of a tag. Call to report 503.823. 4TAG. Then document and send to Marsha Denise at the City of PDX Office of Neighborhood Involvement Graffiti Abatement Program.

* Graffiti is expected to be clean up within 10 days. The City has a program to help with clean up.

* Havilah encourages block watches.

* Havilah would like to organize a graffiti removal day.

* Reports of groups of kids gathering at Peninsula School causing concern.

* Havilah encourages neighbors to become more active outside to provide more “eyes on the street”.

* After dark kids are not to be on school grounds. Kids would be picked up if on the grounds after dark. Call non-emergency 503.823.3333.

* After Spring Break there will be a big emphasis on activities for teens esp at New Columbia.

* The police will be doing more to enforce parental supervision expectations for parents of kids 14 and under out after 10pm.

* Lots of close calls at Peninsula School with kids almost getting hit by cars. They would like a police presence. May want to call 503.823. SAFE to talk to the Safe Routes to Schools Program.

 

7:58pm            Peninsula School

* School Clean Up Sat April 21st 9am to address the school grounds.

* April 27th 6-8:30pm Day of the Child. Will have a celebration at the school complete with dancers, singers, and food.

 

8:02pm      North Portland Clean Up

* Sat April 21st 10am-3pm

*  Dumpsters will be located at 4340 N Lombard University Park Baptist Church.

* Will allow neighbors to drop off lawn debris, recycling, construction materials, general household junk.

 

8:04pm            Mary Hanlon Presentation

* Will be doing a development at the City of Roses location.

* Found out that townhouses would not pencil out on the site.

* Would still like to use high quality materials possibly even green materials.

* Will now be looking to build 26 smaller condo units (500-650sgft some up to 800) that will be primarily studio.

* Will provide some parking in the back of the units.

* They will not be maxing out the units that could be built on the site.

* Will have small courtyards to provide an nice aesthetic for dwellers and the community

* There would be space for one retail establishment.

* Will pursue a green grant.

* May target the median income.

* 2008 build hoped for.

8:13pm            Pam Arden with npGREENWAY

* Would like to see a path from the eastside Esplanade to Kelly Point Park.

* Want to make sure they have community buy-in.

* Some real challenges combined with some exciting possibilities.
